A man’s body found in the Brisbane River on Wednesday has this morning been confirmed as that of missing Corkman Shane O’Halloran.

Mr O’Halloran, 24, had been missing since Saturday night after falling overboard from a cruise ship, and a body found in the river on Wednesday morning has finally been confirmed as his.

He and a female conpanion, 26-year-old Sinead O’Neill form Limavady in Co Derry, both fell overboard during a friend’s birthday cruise on Saturday night last, and while Ms O’Neill was rescued within a minute of falling in, Mr O’Halloran never resurfaced.

The 24-year-old, from Ballineen in west Cork, had been in Australia on a second Working Holiday Visa and is understood to have been working as a carpenter.
